Montverde Academy: Excellence Through Architectural Evolution
Montverde Academy, a renowned institution dedicated to nurturing young minds, embarked on a transformative journey with Powell Studio Architecture in 2011. Located in Montverde, Florida, the academy aimed to enrich its campus to provide an even better educational experience for its students. Powell Studio Architecture played a pivotal role in this extraordinary evolution, leading the development of a comprehensive masterplan, overseeing numerous renovations and expansions, and spearheading the construction of the state-of-the-art Upper School, Middle School, Innovation Center, and the future Legacy Training Center. Their partnership continues to shape the future growth and success of Montverde Academy.
A Historical Perspective
Founded in 1912, Montverde Academy has a rich heritage and a commitment to providing the best educational experience to its students. Over the years, the academy has adapted to the changing needs of its community and the demands of modern education, becoming a globally recognized college preparatory school with a renowned athletic program. In collaboration with Powell Studio Architecture, the institution set out to ensure its campus reflects the existing culture and the local landscape, while also meeting the contemporary requirements of an ever-evolving education landscape.
Adding Architectural Elements
Jeff Powell and the team at Powell Studio Architecture have collaborated with Montverde Academy to complete over 20 projects throughout the campus. The projects have included the Duncan Student Center, Kreke Science Building, Carpenter Hall, Martha Bedell Dining Hall, among others, which were all part of the development of a Campus Master Plan. Additionally, the athletic programs on campus have undergone development, resulting in state-of-the-art facilities such as the fields, Sports Athletic Complex, SIMA Headquarters, and the future Legacy Training Center.
Designing a Vision of Excellence
When Powell Studio Architecture and Montverde Academy collaborated to create spaces like the Innovation Center, Duncan Student Center, and Martha Bedell Dining Hall, their primary goal was to design environments that would inspire and support students throughout their academic journey. These spaces were carefully crafted to encourage students' independence while they attended school. The architectural design of these facilities also pays tribute to the Academy's historical Spanish Revival-style campus. By combining modern functionality with a nod to local tradition, these spaces not only enhance the existing campus but also lay the foundation for future developments.
Creating the Foundation for Excellence
Seamlessly blending into the existing campus, yet at the forefront of the growth of Montverde Academy are the Upper School and Middle School.
In 2015, Montverde opened the doors to their 36,500 square foot Upper School Building. Students were welcomed into a modern, two-story facility with twenty-six classrooms, a computer lab, a study hall, and administrative services.
In 2020, Lindor Hall, Montverde Academy’s Middle School, was inaugurated. This multi-story building spans nearly 39,000 square feet and offers seventeen classrooms, three state-of-the-art science labs, a technology lab, a conference room, a study hall, office space, and an attached 12,711-square-foot gymnasium with versatile multi-purpose space.
